MAR y MAR (Maria and Marcos) is a duo composing and improvising in the
realms of oboe/voice and electric guitar, drawing on influences from jazz,
classical, and some Latin rhythms amongst many more. As well as playing
their own compositions, they also play homage to some of their heroes,
including music of some of these composers into their repertoire such as Chick Corea and Silvia Perez Cruz.
Ecuadorian vocalist Sarah de la Cerda and Cuban pianist Romy Hernandez are Melbourne-based artists whose collaboration fuses Andean folk, Latin jazz, and improvisation. Their performances are rich in emotional and spiritual depth, blending ritualistic energy with a deep commitment to musical storytelling.
Sarah draws on traditional rhythms, jazz, and spiritual practice, using voice as a tool for healing and transformation. She regularly performs in intimate and collaborative settings, weaving original compositions with elements of theatre and chant.
Romy brings decades of experience as a performer, composer, and arranger in the Latin jazz scene. Known for her lyrical style and expressive piano work, she explores themes of identity and belonging in her compositions, including in her recent album Poems of Bliss and Loss.
Together, they create music that is soulful, immersive, and culturally resonant.
