Step back in time for a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience!
Join us for the 1927 silent film classic, College — a comedy-drama masterpiece starring the legendary Buster Keaton.
This isn’t just a film—it’s a full-blown time machine brought to life by The Sounds of Silent, a dynamic 5-piece jazz ensemble made up of Melbourne’s top talent. With energetic, 1920s-style jazz improvised live to Keaton’s antics, this show recreates the magic of the silent film era.
The film stars Ronald, a bookish high school graduate, who delivers a controversial speech on “the Curse of the Athlete,” offending his peers and losing his sweetheart, Mary. Determined to win her back, he follows her to Clayton—an “athlete-infested college”—and throws himself into the world of sports, with hilariously disastrous results.
Recognised as one of Keaton’s finest films, College is fast-paced, funny, and full of charm. The live jazz accompaniment brings a whole new dimension to this silent classic.
