This Tuesday features sets from Abi Lee & Maisie Niven

Abi Lee is a Naarm based pianist, composer, and improviser whose work encompasses jazz and improvised music. Abi quickly established her distinctive voice in the improvised music community after relocating to Naarm from Auckland, NZ in 2021. Abi’s compositions are strongly influenced by contemporary and improvised music practitioners such as Kris Davis, Tim Berne, Tony Malaby, and Marilyn Crispell. Exploring irregular metric patterns, bitonality, and dissonance, Abi will be premiering some of her originals in a rare solo context.

Maisie Niven presents new work inspired by an irrepressible urge to annoy her students in lessons. Repetition is a key feature of practice but it requires keen focus and absolute concentration. Harry Birch will be playing the role of student, watch as Maisie attempts tests his patience.
