Artist Film Workshop is pleased to present a program of handmade analogue films by one of its own, Jordan James Kaye. In recent years Kaye has become one of AFW’s most prolific members, completing numerous works each year with a peculiar intensity that is echoed in the tempo and rhythm of the films themselves. His practice draws from a range of darkroom processes — including extensive use of the contact printer for compositing and manipulation — alongside in-camera methods that register the immediacy of his engagement with the world. In these works, images emerge directly from the meeting of light, chemistry, process and touch. They carry the trace of their making not as marks of damage, but as expressions of attention and process, resulting in films that unfold with a vibrant dynamism.
