WTF Tuesdays are back at the Green! A new series mixing up improv sessions and contemporary classical. Anything is possible!
This Tuesday features sets from Timothy Franklin & Shrishti/सृष्टि Collective
Timothy Franklin
Timothy is a saxophonist practicing primarily in improvised music and free jazz.
His approach combines incendiary saxophone playing with a fierce intellect, absolute sincerity, and a generosity of spirit. In August 2023, Umbra, his duo album with drummer Maddison Carter, released on independent Brisbane label Made Now Music. He has released several other albums, including Mysteries, Counterpoints, and Fractals. His written compositions, including a string quartet, piano miniatures, and several works for woodwinds, are available from Wirripang Pty Ltd.
Timothy primarily performs and records in small group improvisatory settings built upon foundational values of individual autonomy, collective consciousness, risk-taking, respect, and trust. He considers himself part of a tradition of Australian artists advancing stridently localised and individual approaches to post-Coltrane free improvisation.
This set is a rare solo performance.

Shrishti/सृष्टि Collective
Shrishti/सृष्टि Collective is an experimental and improvising music group active in unceded Wurundjeri Country. They are focussed on close collaborations that promote new work by marginalised voices, including First Nations, non-European and queer artists.
Shrishti/सृष्टि Collective presents "Amid whack concrete" featuring R. M. Lazar and Darcy Gilkerson.
"Amid whacky concrete" is a sonic study of improvisation as an ever-shifting and mysterious sound world, where extended technique, phantasmic strings and raw acoustics overlap with sound masses, atmospheric textures, field recordings and ecstatic electronics.
R. M. Lazar is a Naarm-based musician primarily interested in creating evocative, mostly longform sound works. He mainly uses electronics (samplers, synthesizers and laptops) as his primary tools.
Darcy Gilkerson is a cellist, composer and improviser with a passion for contemporary classical and improvisatory chamber music. The principles of his creative output are to confront classical compositional practices to create music that is current, accessible, and allows for artistic freedom.
"Amid whacky concrete" will be complemented by a presentation of DO(OR) 閾, an audiovisual work that Aditya made on a recent trip to China.
