The Maddie Browne Quintet (The MBQ) is a contemporary, Naarm based jazz ensemble. Featuring their unique instrumentation of saxophone, trombone, acoustic bass, drums and voice, the group takes an innovative approach to their improvisation, transporting you to a new world of original compositions by Maddie Browne, notably inspired by Esperanza Spalding and Nubya Garcia. In 2025, The MBQ were honoured to receive the Monash University Vice Chancellor’s Ensemble Leadership Scholarship, which enabled the band to record, produce and release their debut album, “The Method & The Madness”. The album launch was held on R U Ok? Day, September 11 2025, and the event generated over $1000 in donations to The R U Ok? Foundation.
